Terms of Use
These terms apply to Olfactory: the Olfactory app for iPhone and Android and the website olfactory.app, including the public pages at olfactory.app/@handle, /f, /p and /l (together, «Olfactory», «we», «us»). By creating an account or continuing to use Olfactory you agree to these terms. How we handle your data is described in our Privacy Policy. Questions: [email protected].
In short
- Olfactory is a fragrance diary and a community of people who love perfume. Be kind and honest.
- What you post is yours; you let us show it in Olfactory the way you chose.
- There is no tolerance for abusive or objectionable content or behaviour. Report it and we act on it within 24 hours.
- You can block anyone, and you can delete your account and everything in it at any time.
Your account
You need an account to keep a diary, post and follow people. You must be at least 13 years old, or older where the law of your country sets a higher age for using online services without a parent's consent. Give us a working email address, keep your sign-in secure and do not let anyone else use your account. Your handle must not impersonate another person or brand or be offensive; we may ask you to change it or change it ourselves. One person, one account.
What you post
Your shelves, scores, wears, reviews, posts, comments, collections, pictures and profile are your content. You keep all rights to it. So that Olfactory can work, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, display, adapt (for example resize a picture) and distribute your content inside Olfactory — in the app and on the public web pages — to the people your privacy settings allow. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies other people have already shared further under the law or that we must keep by law.
You are responsible for what you post. Post only what you have the right to post: your own words and pictures, or material you are allowed to use.
What is not allowed
Olfactory has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Do not post, send or link to anything that:
- harasses, bullies, threatens or intimidates anyone, or targets a person for abuse;
- attacks people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age;
- is sexually explicit, shows nudity, or sexualises minors in any way;
- shows or encourages violence, self-harm or dangerous acts;
- is illegal, or promotes illegal goods or activity, including counterfeit perfume;
- shares someone else's private information (address, phone, documents) without their permission;
- impersonates a person, a brand or Olfactory;
- is spam: advertising, selling, referral links, repeated or automated posts, fake reviews or scores;
- infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or other rights;
- contains malware or tries to break, overload, scrape or get around the security of Olfactory.
Reviews and scores should be your own honest experience of a fragrance. Brands and sellers may not review their own products or pay for reviews.
Reporting, blocking and moderation
Every post, review, comment and profile has a «Report» action, and you can block any person: you will no longer see each other's content. We review reports within 24 hours. When content breaks these terms we remove it, and we may warn, restrict, suspend or permanently remove the account that posted it — without notice when the case is serious. We may also remove content or accounts we find ourselves. If you think we got it wrong, write to [email protected].
The fragrance catalogue
Fragrance names, brands, notes, accords, perfumers and pictures come from public sources and from our community. We work to keep them accurate but cannot promise they are complete or correct. Brand names and trademarks belong to their owners; their appearance in Olfactory does not mean the brand endorses us. Your Scent DNA, taste overlap and suggestions are computed from diaries; they are an inspiration, not advice. Olfactory does not sell perfume.
Our part
Olfactory, its design, software and the catalogue as a collection are ours or our licensors'. You may use Olfactory for your own, non-commercial purposes; do not copy, resell or extract the catalogue or other people's content in bulk. Olfactory is free. We keep improving it, so features may change, and we may pause or stop the service; if we stop it for good we will tell you in advance and let you take your diary with you.
Ending
You can stop at any time and delete your account in Settings → Delete account; this deletes your account and everything in it, as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or end your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if the law requires it.
Liability
We provide Olfactory with care but «as is»: we cannot promise it will always be available, error-free or that content other people post is accurate. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses or for content posted by other people. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or the rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
Changes
If these terms change in a way that matters, we will publish the new version here with a new effective date and tell you in the app before it applies. If you do not agree, you can delete your account; continuing to use Olfactory after the change means you accept it.
